The equilibrium constant (Kc) for a reaction is greater than 1. What does this indicate about the concentrations of reactants and products at equilibrium?
Explanation
The equilibrium constant Kc equals the concentration of products divided by the concentration of reactants. When Kc is greater than 1, products outnumber reactants at equilibrium.
A large Kc value means the reaction strongly favors product formation. The forward reaction proceeds further than the reverse reaction.
Conversely, Kc less than 1 means reactants are favored. The size of Kc tells you which side of the equation is more abundant when equilibrium is reached.
