The vapour pressure of air at 20°C is found to be 12 mmHg on a particular day. Find the relative humidity if the saturation vapour pressure of water at 20°C is 17.5 mmHg.
Explanation
Relative humidity compares the vapour pressure of the air with the saturation vapour pressure at the same temperature.
Relative humidity = (vapour pressure ÷ saturation vapour pressure) × 100%.
= (12 ÷ 17.5) × 100% = 0.686 × 100% ≈ 69%.
