If the mid-point (x, y) of the line joining (3, 4) and (p, 7) lies on 2x + 2y + 1 = 0, then what will be the value of p?
Explanation
The mid-point of (3, 4) and (p, 7) is x = (3 + p)/2 and y = (4 + 7)/2 = 11/2.
Put it into 2x + 2y + 1 = 0: (3 + p) + 11 + 1 = 0. The 2s cancel the halves.
So p + 15 = 0, and p = -15.
