The Oyo Empire’s decline in the 19th century was partly due to

European colonial powers weakened the Oyo Empire in the 19th century. They disrupted trade and traditional power structures.

Internal problems also contributed, but colonial interference was a major external factor.

The British eventually took over what remained of Oyo territory by the late 1800s.
