The process by which organic matter is decomposed and synthesized to form part of the soil is known as
Explanation
Humification is the process where dead plants and animals break down and turn into humus, a dark, rich part of the soil.
Mineralization is different. It releases simple nutrients from organic matter, but it does not form humus. Nitrification only changes ammonium into nitrates.
