What was the primary advancement of the EDVAC over the ENIAC?
Explanation
EDVAC could store programs in memory alongside data. ENIAC had to be rewired to change programs, which was very difficult. Stored programs meant you could change what the computer did just by loading different software.
Both used vacuum tubes, so that wasn’t new. Speed and size improved but weren’t the main innovation. The ability to store and modify programs was revolutionary.
This invention led to modern computers. Now we easily install and run different programs without changing hardware.
