What is agronomy?
Explanation
Agronomy is the science of crop production and soil management. It applies biology, chemistry, and ecology to growing field crops efficiently and sustainably.
Agronomists study: crop physiology, plant breeding, soil fertility, weed science, pest management, and farming systems. Their goal is optimizing production while protecting resources.
Major crops studied: cereals (maize, rice, wheat), legumes (beans, groundnuts), root crops (cassava, yam), and industrial crops (cotton, sugarcane).
