Explanation

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. Jesus promised to send the Spirit as “Comforter” (John 14-16). At Pentecost (Acts 2), the Spirit came upon believers with wind and tongues of fire.

Functions: convicts of sin, regenerates believers, indwells Christians, empowers for service, produces fruit (love, joy, peace…), gives spiritual gifts, guides into truth, and intercedes in prayer.

Believers receive the Spirit at conversion – not by works but by faith. Spirit-filled living involves yielding to the Spirits control, not grieving Him through sin. The Spirit enables Christian living.
