Explanation

Tatsuniya (folktales) are traditional stories told for entertainment and moral instruction. Often feature animals with human traits – spider (gizo) is clever trickster, hyena represents greed, hare is wise.

Tatsuniya structure: opening formula (“Ga ta nan ga ta nanku” – here is a story for you), narrative, closing formula, often followed by moral lesson. Told at night, usually by women to children.

Functions: entertainment, education, transmitting cultural values, language learning. Stories teach honesty, hard work, respect for elders, consequences of greed. Oral tradition remains important despite literacy.
