The Romantic period in music lasted from about 1780 to 1898. This was over 100 years of emotional, expressive music.

The other date ranges are too short to cover this entire musical era. Romantic music started earlier and ended later than 1820-1895.

Romantic composers focused on feelings and individual expression. Orchestras got bigger and music became more dramatic during this time.
