Explanation

Ars Nova and Ars Antiqua are music styles from the Medieval period. Ars Antiqua was in the 1200s and Ars Nova in the 1300s.

These styles came long before the Romantic, Classical, and Baroque periods. Medieval music was much simpler and mainly used in churches.

Ars Antiqua means old art and Ars Nova means new art. These Latin terms show how music evolved during Medieval times.
