Muawiyah was a companion of the Prophet and later became caliph, but he is not counted among the four Rightly Guided Caliphs. He founded the Umayyad dynasty.

The Rightly Guided Caliphs are specifically Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali. They were chosen by the community and ruled with exceptional justice.

Muawiyah’s rule marked a different era when leadership became hereditary rather than elected.
