Islamic scholars recognize three types of revelation: Wahy (direct revelation), Ilham (inspiration), and Ruya (true dreams).

Wahy is the highest form, used for Quran revelation. Ilham is guidance given to righteous people.

True dreams from Allah are considered one-fortieth of prophethood.
