Explanation

Surah al-Alaq was the first revelation to Prophet Muhammad. The angel Jibril came to him in the cave of Hira and commanded “Read!” beginning the Quranic revelation.

The first verses revealed were “Read in the name of your Lord who created.” This marked the start of Muhammad’s prophethood at age forty.

Though Alaq was first revealed, it appears as chapter 96 in the Quran, which is arranged by divine instruction, not revelation order.
