Explanation

Umar bin Khattab advised Abu Bakr to compile the Quran after many memorizers died in battle. This preserved the Quran in written form.

Zayd bin Thabit was chosen to lead the compilation work. He gathered all written fragments and verified them.

Later, Uthman standardized the Quran into one official version.
