The inside of your elbow is very sensitive to temperature. It feels temperature similarly to how a baby’s delicate skin feels it.

Testing bath water with your elbow prevents accidentally burning baby with too-hot water. This traditional method is safer than using your hand.

Ankles, feet, and knees are less sensitive or awkward for testing. The elbow provides the most accurate and convenient temperature check.
