The elbow is more sensitive to temperature than hands. Parents test bath water with their elbow to ensure it is not too hot for baby’s delicate skin.

The inside of your elbow can detect temperature similar to how a baby’s skin feels it. This prevents accidentally burning the baby with too-hot water.

Ankles, feet, and knees are less sensitive or inconvenient for testing. The elbow provides the most accurate and safe temperature check.
