Motifs are decorative designs based on recognizable objects. Artists create motifs from animals, birds, flowers, geometric shapes, and other solid forms with clear shapes.

Water has no fixed shape and constantly changes form. While water can appear in artwork, it does not provide a stable, repeatable pattern for motif creation.

Animals, birds, and flowers have distinct shapes that can be stylized into repeated patterns. Water is formless and cannot be used as a motif source.
