Explanation

Jesus gave the command to love one another as He loved us in John’s Gospel. This was a new commandment that went beyond just loving your neighbor.

Jesus said this during the Last Supper, shortly before His death. He was explaining that His followers would be known by their love for each other.

The standard is high because Jesus loved us enough to die for us.
