Explanation

Igbo kinship terms reflect social organization. “Nna” (father), “Nne” (mother), “Nwanne” (sibling – literally “child of mother”), “Nwa” (child). Extended family terms are equally important.

“Ada” refers to first daughter with special cultural status. “Okpara” is first son who inherits and leads the family. These positions carry specific rights and responsibilities.

Cousins may be called “brothers” and “sisters” – kinship terms extend beyond nuclear family. “Nna-ochie” (grandfather), “Nne-ochie” (grandmother) honor elders. Terms reflect the communitys value of family bonds.
