Nigeria has multiple climate zones from south to north: tropical rainforest (heavy rainfall, dense vegetation), tropical savanna (wet/dry seasons), and Sahel (semi-arid, sparse vegetation near the northern border).
Rainfall decreases moving northward. The south receives over 2000mm annually; the far north may get less than 500mm. This affects agriculture – cocoa grows in the south, groundnuts in the north.
Temperature is relatively constant year-round (25-35°C) but the north has greater daily and seasonal variation. The harmattan (dry dusty wind) affects the north more severely.
