Explanation

Sex-linked traits are genetic characteristics controlled by genes found on sex chromosomes. In humans, sex chromosomes are X and Y. Most sex-linked genes are located on the X chromosome because it is much larger than the Y chromosome.

Both parents can pass sex-linked traits to their children through their sex chromosomes. Males have XY chromosomes while females have XX chromosomes. Males get their X chromosome from their mother and Y from their father.

Sex-linked traits appear more often in males than females. Males only need one copy of a recessive gene on their X chromosome to show the trait. Females need two copies since they have two X chromosomes. Common sex-linked traits include color blindness and hemophilia.
