Fungi get nutrients by releasing enzymes that break down dead or living organic material outside their bodies. They then absorb the dissolved nutrients through their cell walls. This feeding method is called external digestion and absorption.

Fungi cannot make their own food through photosynthesis like plants. They lack chloroplasts and chlorophyll. Instead, they feed on dead leaves, wood, animals, or living organisms as parasites. Mushrooms, molds, and yeasts are all examples of fungi.

While many fungi are multicellular like mushrooms, some like yeast are single-celled organisms. Fungi reproduce through spores, not seeds. Seeds are produced only by plants, while fungi release millions of tiny spores into the air.
