Plant cells have chloroplasts that contain chlorophyll for making food through photosynthesis. These green organelles capture sunlight and convert it into sugar for energy. Animal cells completely lack chloroplasts because they get energy by eating food instead.

This difference explains why plants are green and can make their own food while animals must eat. Chloroplasts are found only in plant cells and some algae. The presence of chloroplasts is one of the key features that separates plant cells from animal cells.

Both plant and animal cells have cell membranes and nuclei. Plant cells have cell walls for support, but animal cells do not. Plant cells typically have one large central vacuole while animal cells have several small vacuoles.
