Explanation

Deserts have very little water and few plants or animals. The two main forces breaking rocks are extreme heat during the day and cold at night, plus constant wind.

Wind carries sand particles that blast against rocks, slowly wearing them down. Temperature changes make rocks expand and contract until they crack.

Water and plant roots cause weathering in wetter climates, but deserts lack these factors.
