Explanation

Removing cattle horns is called dehorning (or disbudding when done on young calves before horns fully develop). It prevents injuries to other animals and handlers.

Methods: caustic paste (on calves), hot iron, surgical removal. Best done early when horn buds are small. Requires proper technique and sometimes anesthesia.

Benefits: safer handling, reduced injuries, easier transport, better use of space at feed bunks. Most commercial cattle operations practice dehorning.
